Microbiology and Metabolism I: Prokaryotes

MIUS640: Microbiology and Metabolism I: Prokaryote. This course provides an overview of the fundamental aspects of microbiology, focusing on the types of microorganisms, their nutritional requirements, growth patterns, metabolic activities, and the generation of energy and biological products. It examines the diversity of bacteria and archaea, exploring their unique characteristics and roles within various environments. Students will learn about the nutritional needs of bacteria and archaea, including the sources and methods by which these organisms obtain essential nutrients. Instruction covers the factors influencing the growth of bacteria and archaea, with an emphasis on the conditions required for optimal development and reproduction.  The metabolic processes of bacteria and archaea are explored, highlighting how these organisms convert nutrients into energy and biological products. The course discusses the mechanisms by which bacteria and archaea generate energy as well as the production of various biological products through metabolic activities.
