MIUS613: Virology I. This course provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental aspects of virology, focusing on several key topics. Students will examine the structure of viruses, gaining an understanding of their composition and the ways in which viral components are organized. The course also delves into the process of virus assembly, exploring how viral parts come together to form complete virions.

Classification of viruses is another important area covered, with emphasis on the criteria and methods used to categorize different types of viruses. The mechanisms by which viruses enter various types of cells are discussed, highlighting the diversity of strategies that viruses employ to infect host organisms.

The course further explores viruses that infect bacteria and archaea, providing insights into the interactions between viruses and these prokaryotic hosts. Additionally, students will study positive strand RNA viruses of eukaryotes, as well as negative stranded RNA viruses of eukaryotes, thereby covering a broad spectrum of viral diversity and replication strategies.
